how it started
In 2019, the EBNHC (East Boston Neighborhood Health Center) now NeighborHealth, teamed up with Catalyzing Communities to create a new collaborative group to improve health and wellness among school-aged children in East Boston. The East Boston Healthy Families Collaborative represents some of the community’s most well-networked and connected organizations, serving thousands of youth county-wide.

impact
The Catalyzing Communities initiative brought vital attention to the systemic factors impacting youth wellness in East Boston. By integrating perspectives from parents, youth, and community organizations, the project highlighted the critical role of youth-serving programs in providing access to healthy food and physical activity. This effort also revealed how rising household expenses reduce quality family time, emphasizing the need for robust community resources. The initiative directly informed the creation of tools like the EBHFC website and calendar, ensuring long-term access to essential programs and support.
Groups Convening
The East Boston Healthy Families Collaborative (EBHFC) is made up of organizations and institutions dedicated to serving youth and families in East Boston. This diverse coalition includes representatives from community centers, schools, health programs, youth activity providers, and local development organizations. Together, these groups work collaboratively to address the challenges of obesity and promote wellness across the neighborhood.

By bringing their unique expertise and resources, the collaborative amplifies its impact, ensuring a holistic approach to community health and youth development.
